The idea is to help students understand both the commercial side of an organisation and some of the technology or data behind modern decision-making.
A current official example is UC3M's Dual Bachelor in Computer Science and Engineering and Business Administration. It runs for five and a half years and 390 ECTS, combining subjects such as programming, physics and calculus with business administration.
Potential career areas may include business analytics, technology consulting, digital transformation, product management, operations, FinTech and entrepreneurship.
Engineering and Management
Some engineering students are interested not only in technical work, but also in how projects and organisations operate.
Double Degree combinations can connect engineering with Industrial Organisation or Management.
Students may therefore develop technical knowledge while also studying areas related to operations, production, projects and organisational decision-making.
Potential career directions can include project management, operations, manufacturing, industrial consulting, supply chain and entrepreneurship.
A Double Degree is not required to become a manager. An engineer with strong experience can certainly move into management later.
The difference is that this route introduces both perspectives during university.
Engineering and Energy
Engineering and energy naturally overlap.

Engineering, Environment and Sustainability
Modern industry increasingly operates alongside environmental requirements.
That creates combinations such as:
Chemical Engineering + Environmental Engineering
Students may develop an understanding of industrial processes while also learning about environmental impact, water, waste, emissions and sustainable production.
Potential career areas can include process engineering, environmental engineering, sustainability, water treatment and industrial environmental management.
Gaming and Computer Engineering
For students interested in gaming, the degree does not have to be limited to game design alone.
One option is to combine Video Game Design and Development with Computer Engineering.
Universidad Rey Juan Carlos currently lists this Double Degree in its 2026/27 academic offering in Móstoles. The programme includes subjects such as Physics for Video Games, Programming, Computer Technology, Data Structures, Game Design and Geometric Modelling.
This can be particularly attractive to students who want to work in gaming while also building a broader technical foundation.
Possible career areas include game development, gameplay programming, software development, interactive technology, simulation and computer systems.
Gaming, VR and AR
Gaming technology also extends beyond entertainment.
Virtual and Augmented Reality can have applications in training, education, healthcare, architecture, tourism, real estate, simulation and immersive experiences.
This makes combinations involving Computer Science, Video Games, VR and AR particularly interesting for students who want to build interactive technology rather than focus exclusively on traditional gaming.
Animation, Gaming and Digital Art
Not every student interested in games wants to become a programmer.
Some are stronger in art, animation, storytelling, character design or 3D environments.
Programmes combining Animation, Video Game Design, Digital Art and interactive technologies can connect creative and technical skills.
Possible areas include animation, 3D art, character design, environment design, technical art, game design and digital production.
Law and Business
Law and Business is one of the clearest interdisciplinary combinations.

UC3M currently offers a Dual Bachelor in Law and Business Administration lasting five and a half years and 393 ECTS, available in Spanish with a bilingual option at one campus.
Potential professional areas may include corporate functions, compliance, contracts, governance, consulting and risk.
However, studying Law in Spain does not automatically authorise a graduate to practise before courts in another country. Regulated legal professions remain subject to local licensing rules.
Law, Economics and Finance
Law, economics and finance interact continuously in companies, markets, banks and governments.

Law + Accounting

Students should remember that government, police, security and regulated legal roles may have specific nationality, licensing or recruitment requirements depending on the country.
Law and International Relations
Students interested in law but also in international organisations, diplomacy, public policy or multinational businesses can explore combinations involving International Relations or Political Science.
Current Spanish options include programmes combining International Studies and Law; UC3M, for example, states that graduates of its programme obtain qualifications in both International Studies and Law.
Possible professional areas can include international business, policy, public affairs, government relations and regulatory affairs.
Biomedical Engineering and Telecommunications
Healthcare increasingly relies on connected technology.
Medical devices, remote monitoring, sensors, telemedicine and connected healthcare systems all involve interaction between medicine-related engineering and communications technology.
Combining Biomedical Engineering with Telecommunications can therefore create an interdisciplinary profile connected to medical devices, clinical engineering, healthcare technology and connected medical systems.
Food Engineering and Food Science
Food production involves far more than the final product consumers see.

Is Every Double Degree Better Than a Single Degree?
No.
This is one of the most important points in the entire series.
Having two subjects in the programme title does not automatically make a degree more valuable.
The real question is:
Does the second discipline genuinely add value to your career goal?
If it does not, a focused Bachelor’s Degree combined with internships, projects, professional certifications and language skills may make much more sense.
If the two fields genuinely complement each other and the student is prepared for the additional workload, a Double Degree can become a very interesting option.
What About Tuition Fees?
Double Degree tuition varies according to the university, region, field of study and number of ECTS credits.
Some Spanish public-university options can begin at approximately €600 per academic year in certain cases, while other programmes cost more.
